The frame is vintage as we did not want to use a brand new frame around an antique litho.

Please inspect everything carefully to be satisfied as this is purposely not a brand new frame.

We try to locate antique or vintage frames for all our antique prints as they show much better that way, as the slightly distressed look is more fitting and eclectic looking.

Please inspect everything carefully to be satisfied as we will not refund any shipping charges.

FIRST EDITION CHROMO'S ARE ALWAYS BETTER IN QUALITY AND COLOR AND MORE VALUABLE TO THE COLLECTOR. IT WAS PRINTED ON HEAVY ART PAPER OF THE TIME AND HAND-COLORED ON TOP.

Beautiful Antique Chromolithographs as this one were no longer produced after the XIX Century as a timely and expensive process went into making each plate and individually coloring them. First a black and white lithograph was produced then each color was applied separately by hand. Note that in Chromolithographs each color requires a separate stone or plate. After one color plate has been stamped on, there is a drying process needed before the next color can be applied. As a result, not that many were made, the books were costly and only the wealthy were lucky enough to enjoy them. These plates are rare and hard to come by these days and have become quite an investment for the collector.

These are the Color Lithographs that they talk about on the Antiques Road Show, and other T.V. programs telling you to buy these Chromolithographs from the 1800's because of there bright beautiful color's and quality of workmanship that went into making these Antique Chromolithographs.

We also carry loose original prints 300 years old or less in great condition such as: Albin, Audubon, Baron, Barraband, Bertuch, Brodtmann, Brown, Buffon, Cassel, Curtis, Cuvier, Donovan, Edwards, Fitch, Frisch, Grandville, Harrison, Walter Hood, Latham, Linden,Linnaeus, Loddiges, Martinet, McKenney, Morris, Munting, Redoute, Reinchenbachia, Schreber, Schubert, Selby, Shaw and Nodder, Van Geel, Warner, etc.... etc...

Again, we closed our art store of antique prints and custom frames as well as our store of rare artifacts from around the world and we will now sell them direct to the public here. We have 1000's of antique prints and it will take a while to do so, so if you are interested in prints from the names above or others since I did not have time to list them all, please contact us.
