Rare War Warrior Arrow Deflector Tribal Shield
You are buying the polychrome Arrow Deflector
(also used as Clan Shield)
(Seen on the pictures that are not taken in our home)
Item 9A20 in our inventoryA very scarce older panel
Collected in the Kupkein region, East Sepik, Papua New Guinea,
Very tall and heavy
Measures: 40 1/2" X 10" and thick
It is a dramatic addition to any décor as seen on some of the photos in our home where a similar board hangs among others on the den wall.
Adorned with carved geometric motifs, colorful polychrome designs created with natural pigments.
It was stored in the man's house and the motifs identify the clan and the village:
it is also considered a spiritual protection when hunting or making war.
We have other shields including some from the Asmat region available, arrow deflectors and panels as well as story boards, gope boards etc...
Some of the pictures seen here are of tribes taken during our trips there.
Every Arrow Reflector we have is unique: no two are the same as they are entirely handmade out of one solid thick piece of wood.
