Polychrome Arrow Deflector

(Also used as a Clan Shield)

A very scarce older panel

Collected in the Kupkein region, East Sepik, Papua New Guinea,

Measures: 36" long x 7 1/4" wide.

Long and heavy

Decorated with an ancestor face, carved geometric motifs, polychrome designs created with natural pigments, and 2 pairs of eyes are better than one in this case.

It was stored in the man's house and the motifs identify the clan and the village

Also considered a spiritual protection when hunting or making war
