This stunning framed Hans Holbein classical portrait of Thomas Earl of Surrey, around 135 years old, and was published in London by John Chamberlaine (Keeper of the King’s Drawings and Medals and Fellow of the Society of Artists) in 1884 in the “Collection of His Majesty for the Portraits of Illustrious Persons of the Court of Henry VII”. This plate designed after a drawing by Holbein is a stipple engraving engraved by Francesco Bartolozzi and printed on fine wove paper. Bartolozzi (1727-1815), historical Engraver to his Majesty George III, perfected the art of stipple engraving, he was one of the finest engravers ever, and in 1768 was a foundation member of the Royal Academy in London.
Please inspect everything carefully to be satisfied as this is too costly for us to ship back and forth out of pocket, just for a look and we cannot refund either shipping.
The frame is vintage as we did not want to use a brand new frame around a Victorian plate.
Please inspect everything carefully to be satisfied as this is purposely not a brand new frame.
We try to locate antique or vintage frames for all our antique prints as they show much better that way.
We also carry loose original prints 300 years old or less in great condition such as: Albin, Audubon, Baron, Barraband, Bertuch, Brodtmann, Brown, Buffon, Cassel, Curtis, Cuvier, Donovan, Edwards, Fitch, Frisch, Grandville, Harrison, Walter Hood, Latham, Linden, Linnaeus, Loddiges, Martinet, McKenney, Morris, Munting, Redoute, Reinchenbachia, Schreber, Schubert, Selby, Shaw and Nodder, Van Geel, Warner, etc...
Again, we closed our art store of antique prints and custom frames as well as our store of rare artifacts from around the world and we will now sell them direct here by listing them regularly. We have 1000's of antique prints and it will take a while to do so, so if you are interested in prints from the names above or others since I did not have time to list them all, please let us know.
