Very scarce older panel
Collected in the Kupkein region, East Sepik, Papua New Guinea
Measures: 52" tall
Decorated with geometric carved motifs, polychrome designs and colored with natural pigments.
It was stored in the man's house and the motifs identify the clan and the village.
It is also considered a spiritual protection when hunting or making war and the motifs are meant to intimidate.
We have other shields including some from the Asmat region available, arrow reflectors and panels as well as story boards, gope boards etc... Some of the pictures show tribal people taken on some of our trips there.
